Data Analysis

How to Create Customized Pivot Tables to Analyze GBVIMS Data

One of the benefits of the GBVIMS is the large amount of information that you can capture in the incident recorder.  This data can be combined to generate aggregate statistics.  With the information already entered into the incident data tab on the incident recorder, you can easily pull out many different types of data.  Here is a Step-by-Step Guide to using Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts to produce customized data about reported GBV incidents.

How to Analyze GBVIMS Data

The information entered into the incident data tab in the Incident Recorder can be used to generate various types of statistics.  Once you have created these statistics, there are many questions you can ask to help you analyze the statistics you produced. This analysis will help you learn more about your programs, identify gaps in service, and design more effective programs for GBV prevention and response.  In order to generate these statistics, you can use the information from the incident data tab to create pivot tables that you can customize in various ways.  For example, you can customize the pivot table to look at different time frames (more than just one month) or to look at data that is simply not captured in the monthly statistics report. Once you are comfortable creating pivot tables that capture this information, you can look at other data in the incident recorder to look for trends or gaps in service.

Using GBVIMS Data to Inform your Programming

Data from the GBVIMS should be used to inform your program design (prevention and response), reporting and advocacy.  To help you think through the ways you might use GBVIMS data to improve your programming, here are a few examples from GBVIMS-implementing organizations.
